Parents looking to relocate their families to Brownsville no doubt have the availability of quality education at the top of their list of requirements, as will any adult looking to continue his or her education after the move. While Brownsville real estate agents might not know much about Burlington wedding reception locations considering how far removed they are from Ontario and the field of wedding planning, they know all about Brownsville schools. For anyone who wants to know what to expect from the Brownsville school system, they have laid their knowledge down in this article.

Public Schools

The majority of the city of Brownsville is under the purview of the Brownsville Independent School District, which is where most pupils who go on to become rocket scientists and class action lawyers get their starts. With over 45,000 students in grades kindergarten to 12, your child will have no shortage of friends. There are fifty schools administered by the district, many of which offer more Spanish language instruction than you would expect if you were from a state farther north because so many of Brownsville's residents are Mexican ex-patriots.

Charter or Magnet Schools

The state runs several charter schools for pupils who require special attention. The School for Success focuses on giving kids the tools they need to succeed while Sentry Technology Prep gives a boost to those who show an aptitude for computers and data encryption. Frontier Academy prepares kids for college while the Harmony Science Academy accepts applications from those with a special aptitude for physics, chemistry and natural science in all grades. The Math and Science Academy serves a similar function but with more of an emphasis on empiricism and mathematics. Any student can apply for admission to the magnet school regardless of whether their neighborhood is zoned for that school or not.

Private Schools

For parents who wish their children to have a Catholic education, the church operates its own schools independently of the board. For other children, private school begins at 1st Grade. There are special elementary and middle schools for the Episcopal, Baptist, and Catholic faiths as well as several nondenominational Christian academies. Creative children who may grow up to design keels for ships may gain a boost from the Montessori teaching method, which is offered at the Kenmount School.

Post-Secondary Education

Brownsville, Texas offers post-secondary education opportunities to a wide range of students, from future public health officials to plumbers, businesspeople to beauticians, hospitality managers to food and beverage marketing specialists. The biggest school is the University of Texas at Brownsville which offers all the usual undergrad programs in science, technology, arts, business, education and health. It also has the School of Public Health which offers the Master of Public Health degree program, which is not a medical degree. University of Texas affiliate Texas Southernmost College offers career training diplomas while South Texas Vocational Tech trains its students to enter skilled trades. Those wishing to pursue careers in the dentistry field train at the Clinical Dental Careers School while the Vogue College of Cosmetology turns out Brownsville's hair dressers and beauticians
